Where's THC been since The Lookout?

click here to go to THC.com

Since The Lookout was released and we went on tour we have been in constant motion, doing our best to try and get our music to as many ears as possible. With MC Matty J finally moving down to The House Of Dreams, the entire group is living in the same place for the first time in its 5 year history. This has allowed for an unprecedented amount of music being made at any given moment. We have recorded close to 30 new tracks since his arrival with many more on the way. At the time being we are working on finishing our second full length album, The Masters Collection. With Projected 3, the third in our series of mixtapes from The Projectivity Movement, completed we have made finishing this next album priority number 1. Also on the burner is IBProfyn's solo album Musical Medication, a Got Thc? Mixtape, and a side project with Canadian super producer JDV Productions that might just be our best collection of songs yet. Aside from all this, The Lookout continues to be sent out and played by radio stations all over the country. We have made a splash in Canada by cracking the Hip Hop college radio charts repeatedly throughout July and August and we are gearing up for a release of two new singles to be made available for free online and sent out to all of our radio contacts. On top of all this we are trying to make our online presence stronger and will be constantly updating our websites and blogs so be sure to check back daily for a quick fix. Hope to see you soon.

FYI, Volume 3

WELCOME BACK TO FYI

We’re back again to let everybody know what’s happening, I’m here to fight some evil with all of my super rapping friends! FINALLY, THC is releasing a follow-up to their debut album, “figure It Out”, just in time for spring. So play it while you are falling in love, waiting for April showers to bring May flowers, during the Final Four, and (if you are in Syracuse still) shoveling snow. The album, entitled “The Lookout” is just a little taste of things to come later in the year. All 3 members of THC are releasing solo efforts soon, so everyone has been locked in the Projectivity Basement for months now, which is surprisingly a good thing. THC has so much material stockpiled it seems like we are just waiting for nuclear musical winter to hit. So while we prep the “REAL” follow up album to “Figure It Out”, entitled “Masters Collection”, we figured you all deserved at least one more hit to keep your high going until then. Enjoy and be merry!

A MESSAGE FROM SOUTH KOREA

Annyong aseyho (Hello) to all,
HooIzzY coming to ya from Cheongju City, South Korea. I've been in Korea for a little more than three weeks now, and have been having an awesome and overwhelming time of it so far. The city my girlfriend and I are living in has a population of about 600,000, and is located about an hour and a half south east of Seoul (one of the densest populated cities in the world). A university district of our province, Chungcheongbuk Do, the city is full of students as well as foreign english teachers.

One of the first things that surprised me about Cheongju was the surrounding areas. Although it's a large, busstling, packed full of skyscrapers and towering apartment buildings type city, the city limits are more rural than suburban. For example, two weekends ago my brother took us on a hike to Sangdang San Sung(mountain castle). The beginning of the trail is only a twenty minute walk from our apartment, and then only another couple miles up the mountain. When we reached the top of the mountain via wonderfully kept trails, we found a massive wall made of brick and rock surrounding the top of the mountain for some 4 kilometers around. This wall was built some time in the 15th century to provide a retreat from enemies in times of war. Now a tourist destination, inside the fortress exists a small village consisting of reastaurants, two ponds, and some small farms. Although spring has yet to bring bloom and color to this landscape it was still breathtaking to look out off the top of the mountain and see our city and the surrounding mountains. We then walked to the village and had some lunch at one of the restaurants inside. We dined on grilled tofu, squid and vegetable pancakes, and many different spicy pickled vegetables (kimchi-a staple of the korean diet). We also drank rice wine brewed in house, from bowls, before we headed back down.

This weekend however, we whetted our home sick palates with lots of Guinness and fish and chips in Seoul. Surprisingly, a holiday that started in the states, St. Patricks day, is alive and well in Seoul, South Korea. We made the one and a half hour bus trip Saturday and arrived at the festivities around two o'clock. There was a parade and some live music, and an immense number of people from all over the globe. The parade, which included, high school marching bands, the U.S. army marching band, a gang of Harleys, and ourselves as anyone could jump in anywhere and join in the march. After the parade we hit some western bars and ate and drank our hearts content, until we caught a bus back home at six in the morning. Yeah, it was a long night!

Well, until next time peoples...keep expanding
peace and prosperityz

MATTY J GLAZE: FIRST TIME VETERANS

So 2008 is the year the Matty J Glaze album is going to be released, we PROMISE. Ever since "Figure It Out" was released, Matty J and J. Glaze have been recording and mixing "First Time Veterans" and several
of the songs have become fan favorites at THC shows. "Peaks and Valleys," the first single off the album, has been on the radio in Syracuse and Staten Island over the past year. Other favorites, such as "Rock On" featuring Jack Brown and "Sometimes" featuring THC, have also recently been released to the radio, and both are featured on the new THC album, "The Lookout."

"First Time Veterans" is jam-packed with Matty J's lyrics at their finest over J. Glaze's choicest beats. So FINALLY, after thousands of emails and comments asking what's taking so long, we have one thing to say, quoting Black Thought from The Roots: "You see the masterpiece but to me it's unperfected." Your dreams WILL come true in 2008.

SNOW MAN’S LAND UPDATE

Cuse Town, snow man’s land. As you may or may not know, winter in Cuse has been just as bad as it ever was. Snow is still piled everywhere, but that hasn’t stopped THC and Sophistafunk from heating things up to try and melt some away. Funk N’ Waffles has been hot as hell all winter, and with spring coming, it’s only getting hotter. Burnt MD from VT is coming down for a show sometime in April, and Sophistafunk has been playing for sardine-packed rooms when they aren’t out of town blowing minds. Speaking of which, Sophistafunk and THC are heading back out to Buffalo soon to quell the riots that started when they played at the Global Warming Winter BBQ at the beginning of February. Sophistafunk also has three or four confirmed dates in Ithaca playing with The Rozatones and Mystic Trick, so check out the myspace for dates. To see what’s going down at Funk N’ Waffles nightly, check out the FNW website, and for some musical treats, check out the FNW myspace.

PROJECTED 3

This second release in the series, was pretty successful. The Projectivity movement is growing rapidly. Besides selling plenty of copies at the Burlington, Buffalo, and NYC shows, the first orders of physical CDs online went over seas to Japan, as well as Korea. They have been shipped to retail spots all over the country, and will be digitally distributed worldwide soon. Shit is going international!

Now is a perfect time to invite anybody reading this to submit songs for Projected 3. Ill say this, the movement is getting serious attention from established artists, and now is the time for us all to band together and get the message out. The theme for the whole tape is positivity and creativity. Every artist you hear on these mixtapes extends far beyond the average talent of rappers today. They are saying things that need to be heard and raising the standard for quality underground music. Projectivity is all about the message. If you like what you hear or like what you read, please join the movement and find out how to get involved and how we can bring Projectivity to your town, state, or country. There are no boundaries, contracts, payments, or restrictions, just a desire to work together and spread the message of a need for change. Get involved, visit myspace.com/theprojectivitymovement or contact projectivity@gmail.com.

Projectivity Mission Statement

Projectivity is about progress through education and development. It involves building ideas on top of existing foundations for learning. It is the movement that will carry our music, as well as many other forms of media forward, and will draw the attention of the public and inspire our audience. It is also about expressing ideas that are unfamiliar and unpopular to society, but in a practical manner so that the creative process itself becomes the object of respect and emulation for the next generation. Our music and this movement stress mental development, constant elevation, perpetual motion, and chronic progression; an awareness of a mind state beyond conventional wisdom and typical themes found in today's society. It is about teaching, finding new ways to educate if not inform, or at very least suggest various theories, philosophies, and dreams expressing the human experience. In time the manifestation of Projectivity will be revealed through the contribution of anyone around the globe who is willing to participate.

This blog will be just one more place to learn about the movement. We are all about working with artists, in fact that is the main goal. Hopefully anyone that wants to get involved can see their music, art, writing, etc. published here as well as all other outlets that Projectivity reaches. Feel free to contribute and spread the word wherever you maybe. Remember to ALWAYS do what you love.

Projectivity Hip Hop -- Projectivity Volume 2.

Review by Dan Bolles.

Source: Seven Days VT

Pardon the pun, but hip-hop music gets a bad rap. Perhaps it was the explosion of gangsta rap in the late 1980s and early ‘90s that fueled the negative stereotypes often associated with the genre and led to widespread and snobbish disapproval from mainstream America. Or perhaps, in our sex- and violence-obsessed culture, artists promoting malignant stereotypes have been deemed more commercially viable than those who choose to promote positive thinking. It’s a sad commentary indeed. But hip-hop was born out of the need to create something good from a bad situation, and that ethic propels collectives such as New York’s Projectivity and Burlington’s GTD. Independently, both groups are beacons of higher consciousness within their respective communities. Combined, they are a force to be reckoned with, as evidenced by their latest collaboration, Projected Mixtape Vol. 2.

The CD is a remarkable collection of underground hip-hop talent, featuring acts from Burlington, NYC and beyond, such as Wu-Tang affiliate Remedy, Boston’s Akrobatik and Staten Island’s NYOil, who is soon to star in his own animated series on BET. Massachussett’s The Problemaddicts set the comp’s tone with the opening track “Hurting,” enlisting legendary underground MC Masta Ace, long an outspoken critic of gangsta rap and commercial hip-hop.

But the star-studded mixtape is of particular local interest because it once again serves notice that Vermont hip-hop artists can more than hold their own alongside some of the region’s finest. GTD’s Burnt MD is showcased on no fewer than four of the disc’s 25 cuts, including “Time Is Now,” with frequent collaborator Network, whose own track “Be Somebody” is a standout.

Burlington heavyweights The Aztext weigh in with a cut from their excellent 2007 release The Sacred Document; “Lettin’ You Know” features noted Michigan MC One Be Lo.

VT Union’s Nastee makes a welcome appearance with “Go Away.” The MC has been somewhat elusive since VT Union’s Tha Mixtape was released last summer, splitting time between Burlington and NYC. But the tune is an apt reminder that Nastee’s talents extend well beyond spinning club anthems at Red Square.

Perhaps the most impressive Vermont contribution comes from Northeast Kingdom duo Algorhythms, an offshoot of Wombaticus Rex. Playful but incisive, “Dreams of Lisbon” is emblematic of the compilation’s overall spirit. “Everyone insists they spit doper than you / yeah, I play strip poker at the Smithsonian, too. / I’m over it, dude — all the games that I played are breaking like papier mâché and fading away,” rhymes wordsmith Thirtyseven.

It’s difficult to spread a positive message without sounding preachy, especially in hip-hop. But, by and large, the artists showcased on Projected: Vol. 2 do just that. Can I get an amen?
