FYI, Volume 3

WELCOME BACK TO FYI

We’re back again to let everybody know what’s happening, I’m here to fight some evil with all of my super rapping friends! FINALLY, THC is releasing a follow-up to their debut album, “figure It Out”, just in time for spring. So play it while you are falling in love, waiting for April showers to bring May flowers, during the Final Four, and (if you are in Syracuse still) shoveling snow. The album, entitled “The Lookout” is just a little taste of things to come later in the year. All 3 members of THC are releasing solo efforts soon, so everyone has been locked in the Projectivity Basement for months now, which is surprisingly a good thing. THC has so much material stockpiled it seems like we are just waiting for nuclear musical winter to hit. So while we prep the “REAL” follow up album to “Figure It Out”, entitled “Masters Collection”, we figured you all deserved at least one more hit to keep your high going until then. Enjoy and be merry!

A MESSAGE FROM SOUTH KOREA

Annyong aseyho (Hello) to all,
HooIzzY coming to ya from Cheongju City, South Korea. I've been in Korea for a little more than three weeks now, and have been having an awesome and overwhelming time of it so far. The city my girlfriend and I are living in has a population of about 600,000, and is located about an hour and a half south east of Seoul (one of the densest populated cities in the world). A university district of our province, Chungcheongbuk Do, the city is full of students as well as foreign english teachers.

One of the first things that surprised me about Cheongju was the surrounding areas. Although it's a large, busstling, packed full of skyscrapers and towering apartment buildings type city, the city limits are more rural than suburban. For example, two weekends ago my brother took us on a hike to Sangdang San Sung(mountain castle). The beginning of the trail is only a twenty minute walk from our apartment, and then only another couple miles up the mountain. When we reached the top of the mountain via wonderfully kept trails, we found a massive wall made of brick and rock surrounding the top of the mountain for some 4 kilometers around. This wall was built some time in the 15th century to provide a retreat from enemies in times of war. Now a tourist destination, inside the fortress exists a small village consisting of reastaurants, two ponds, and some small farms. Although spring has yet to bring bloom and color to this landscape it was still breathtaking to look out off the top of the mountain and see our city and the surrounding mountains. We then walked to the village and had some lunch at one of the restaurants inside. We dined on grilled tofu, squid and vegetable pancakes, and many different spicy pickled vegetables (kimchi-a staple of the korean diet). We also drank rice wine brewed in house, from bowls, before we headed back down.

This weekend however, we whetted our home sick palates with lots of Guinness and fish and chips in Seoul. Surprisingly, a holiday that started in the states, St. Patricks day, is alive and well in Seoul, South Korea. We made the one and a half hour bus trip Saturday and arrived at the festivities around two o'clock. There was a parade and some live music, and an immense number of people from all over the globe. The parade, which included, high school marching bands, the U.S. army marching band, a gang of Harleys, and ourselves as anyone could jump in anywhere and join in the march. After the parade we hit some western bars and ate and drank our hearts content, until we caught a bus back home at six in the morning. Yeah, it was a long night!

Well, until next time peoples...keep expanding
peace and prosperityz

MATTY J GLAZE: FIRST TIME VETERANS

So 2008 is the year the Matty J Glaze album is going to be released, we PROMISE. Ever since "Figure It Out" was released, Matty J and J. Glaze have been recording and mixing "First Time Veterans" and several
of the songs have become fan favorites at THC shows. "Peaks and Valleys," the first single off the album, has been on the radio in Syracuse and Staten Island over the past year. Other favorites, such as "Rock On" featuring Jack Brown and "Sometimes" featuring THC, have also recently been released to the radio, and both are featured on the new THC album, "The Lookout."

"First Time Veterans" is jam-packed with Matty J's lyrics at their finest over J. Glaze's choicest beats. So FINALLY, after thousands of emails and comments asking what's taking so long, we have one thing to say, quoting Black Thought from The Roots: "You see the masterpiece but to me it's unperfected." Your dreams WILL come true in 2008.

SNOW MAN’S LAND UPDATE

Cuse Town, snow man’s land. As you may or may not know, winter in Cuse has been just as bad as it ever was. Snow is still piled everywhere, but that hasn’t stopped THC and Sophistafunk from heating things up to try and melt some away. Funk N’ Waffles has been hot as hell all winter, and with spring coming, it’s only getting hotter. Burnt MD from VT is coming down for a show sometime in April, and Sophistafunk has been playing for sardine-packed rooms when they aren’t out of town blowing minds. Speaking of which, Sophistafunk and THC are heading back out to Buffalo soon to quell the riots that started when they played at the Global Warming Winter BBQ at the beginning of February. Sophistafunk also has three or four confirmed dates in Ithaca playing with The Rozatones and Mystic Trick, so check out the myspace for dates. To see what’s going down at Funk N’ Waffles nightly, check out the FNW website, and for some musical treats, check out the FNW myspace.
